Report: Dodgers contacted White Sox about Abreu

The Los Angeles Dodgers look to be on the hunt for some additional thump for their lineup, as they've been in touch with the Chicago White Sox about the availability of Jose Abreu, sources told Michael J. Duarte of NBC Los Angeles.

While it's unclear if the White Sox intended to move the veteran first baseman, who's coming off an All-Star campaign, Abreu is set to become a free agent at the end of next season.

Los Angeles relied on a combination of Cody Bellinger and Max Muncy at first base for most of last season but added David Freese in a trade last August.

All three players were effective pieces for the National League champions and are back with the club for 2019.

Jose Abreu 553 22 78 .798 1.2
Cody Bellinger 632 25 76 .814 3.6
Max Muncy 481 35 79 .973 5.2
David Freese* 47 2 9 1.130 0.5

However, Bellinger (outfield), Muncy (second base), and Freese (third base) can all play different positions if the team needed to fit Abreu into its mix.

The 31-year-old Abreu is set to earn $13 million next season.
