Brewers' Gonzalez to be taken off NLCS roster following ankle injury

An ankle injury appears to have ended Gio Gonzalez's season.

The Milwaukee Brewers left-hander told ESPN's Pedro Gomez that the team said he'll be taken off the National League Championship roster before Game 5 and replaced with a pitcher.

The move will make the 33-year-old ineligible for the World Series if the Brewers move on and defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Gonzalez was removed during the second inning of Game 4 on Tuesday after rolling his ankle while fielding a grounder near the mound.

The veteran was acquired from the Washington Nationals on Aug. 31. He pitched well for Milwaukee down the stretch, posting a 3-0 record with a 2.13 ERA in five starts.

He's made two postseason starts for the Brewers, allowing two earned runs in three innings.
