Fox developing 'Rookie of the Year' remake

A new "Rookie of the Year" film is in the works.

A deal has been struck with 20th Century Fox and Dan Gregor and Doug Mand - consulting producers on The CW series "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" - to remake the 1993 baseball comedy, according to Deadline's Mike Fleming Jr.

The original "Rookie of the Year," directed by Daniel Stern, starred Thomas Ian Nicholas as a young boy who gains a powerful pitching arm after an accident and goes on to join the Chicago Cubs. It grossed $56.5 million at the box office.

Bob Harper, who produced the original film, will also be involved in the remake, which Fleming notes is still in the early planning stages.
